UMW, CNU Earn Victories to Open CAC Men's Tennis Tournament Action

Top-seed Mary Washington and No. 3 Christopher Newport opened the 2019 CAC Men's Tennis Tournament with victories on Friday, April 26th. The Eagles and Captains will advance to the semifinal rounds scheduled for Tuesday, April 30th. 

A pair of first round matches remain and will take place on Saturday (April 27). No. 2 seeded Salisbury will host No. 7 Penn State Harrisburg, while No. 4 Southern Virginia welcomes No. 5 St. Mary's to Buena Vista. 

The third-seeded Christopher Newport Captains defeated sixth-seeded York (Pa.) Spartans by a 5-0 decision on Friday with No. 1 Mary Washington posting a 9-0 win over No. 8 Frostburg State.  CNU will face the winner of the Salisbury/Penn State Harrisburg match in the next round, while UMW will host the victor of Southern Virginia and St. Mary's.

The CAC Championship match is slated for Friday, May 3 at the home courts of the highest remaining seed.

Match 1: #1 Mary Washington def. #8 Frostburg State, 9-0
Match 4: #3 Christopher Newport def. #6 York (Pa.), 5-0

Saturday, April 27 - First Round
Match 2: #5 St. Mary's (Md.) at #4 Southern Virginia 3 p.m.
Match 3: #7 Penn State Harrisburg at #2 Salisbury, 1 p.m.

Tuesday, April 30 - Semifinal Round 
Match 5 - #1 Mary Washington vs. Winner Match 2 (at Mary Washington)
Match 6 - Winner Match 3 vs. #3 Christopher Newport (at highest remaining seed)

Friday, May 3 - Championship Match
Match 7 - Winner Match 5 vs. Winner Match 6 (at highest remaining seed)
