FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Christopher Newport junior Johanna Ranta-aho & Southern Virginia junior Kukutla Motlojoa earned CAC Tennis Player of the Week for March 19, 2019.

Christopher Newport junior Johanna Ranta-aho helped lead the Captains to a pair of non-conference wins this week over Methodist University and Centre College. She won all four of her matches, with a pair of victories at No. 1 singles and two at No. 1 doubles. The CNU junior defeated Alison Himes (6-2, 6-1) and then Katharine Sherman (6-4, 6-0) in singles while pairing with Olivia Reed for 8-3 and 8-6 wins on the top line of tandem play. This marks the second time this season Ranta-ago has earned CAC Player of the Week honors.

 

Men's Player of the Week

Southern Virginia junior Kukutla Motlojoa anchored the men's tennis during their spring break competition in Orlando, Florida against Division II team Lees-McRae. The Knights won 6-1, Kukutla (K.K.) and teammate Daniel Blonquist won their doubles matchup 6-1 and later K.K. defeated his competition in No. 2 singles 6-3, 6-4 to extend the Knights winning streak to four.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Frostburg State's Shasta Braithwaite opened the spring season with a dominating 8-1 win at No.1 doubles and he collected a 6-2, 6-2 straight set win at No. 1 singles...Mary Washington's Patrick Hughes led #13 Mary Washington to a 7-2 win over Washington and Lee, cruising to a 6-3, 6-1 win at two singles over Alex Fedor, and teaming with Michael Fleming to top Fedor and Tye Loan, 8-0, at three doubles in the Eagles' only action this week...Christopher Newport's Dominic Lacombe went 1-0 at No. 1 singles and 1-0 at No. 3 doubles in win over Centre...Mary Washington's Rachel Cooper led #19 Mary Washington in the Blue/Gray Invitational against three nationally ranked teams. She picked up a pair of wins at five and six singles in three matches, topping Laura Sweson of #11 Skidmore, 6-1, 6-1 at six, and then downed Cecile Wilde of #38 Southwestern, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4, at five on Saturday.
