Salisbury Earns Fourth Consecutive CAC Men's Track & Field Championship
Salisbury University won the 2007 Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) men's track and field championship on Saturday afternoon. The Sea Gulls posted 263.33 team points to win their fourth consecutive conference title and their ninth overall. York (Pa.) finished in a distant second place with 154.66 total points.
The Salisbury short distance sprint team could not be caught as the Sea Gulls swept the 100, 200, 400-meter dash, 110-meter hurdles and 400-meter hurdles along with the 400-meter relay. The relay team of freshmen Justin Acker, Delannie Spriggs, Wayne Turner and senior Marcus Tines finished with a NCAA provisional time of 41.99.
Sam Singleton won the 200 and 400-meter dash and his time of 22.11 in the 200 set a new CAC championship record. Spriggs won the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.78, one tenth of a second off a nine-year old conference record. Junior Eric Graves won the 1500-meter run with a new CAC championship record of 3:57.53. Graves later came in second in the 5000 meter run with a time of 16:03.49.
In the field events, Quentin Briscoe won the triple jump as he landed with a distance of 44 feet. The freshman also won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.75. Fellow freshman Brandon Fugett tossed the shot put 46 feet, two inches to win that event for the maroon and gold.
