York's Ben Edwards And Salisbury's Matt McMurdo Picked For CAC Weekly Track & Field Honors

York senior BEN EDWARDS and Salisbury sophomore MATT McMURDO were selected as the CAC Track & Field Athletes of the Week for May 3, 2011. Edwards was named the CAC Men’s Track Athlete of the Week after breaking his own school record and posting an NCAA provisional qualifying time for the NCAA championships by finishing second in the 400 hurdles at the Paul Kaiser Classic at Shippensburg University. Edwards, the CAC champ in both hurdle races, crossed the finish line in 53.34, just .02 behind the winning performance. McMurdo was named the CAC Men’s Field Athlete of the Week after recording an NCAA provisional-qualifying distance of 195-0 in the javelin at the Penn Relays. McMurdo’s ninth-place performance in the event, competing against NCAA Division I, II and III competition, was two inches better than his previous PR this season and two centimeters shy of advancing to the Penn Relays final round.

Frostburg State junior CHAUNCEY MANSON and Salisbury junior JAY DRENNER were selected as the CAC Track & Field Athletes of the Week for April 12, 2011. Manson was named the CAC Men’s Track Athlete of the Week after winning the 200-meter dash for the third time in the last four meets, and adding a second-place finish in the 100 meter dash, at the Don Frail Invitational at Marietta College. Drenner was named the CAC Men’s Field Athlete of the Week after winning the discus (135-7) and hammer (140-3) and finishing second in the shot put (44-4 1/4) at the West Chester University Golden Ram Invitational.

Frostburg State junior CHAUNCEY MANSON and Mary Washington senior thrower MATT GELLER were selected as the CAC Track & Field Athletes of the Week for March 29, 2011. Manson was named the CAC Men’s Track Athlete of the Week after winning the 100 (10.88) and 200 (21.86) dashes at Susquehanna’s Jim Taylor Invitational. In both events, Manson qualified for the 2011 ECAC Championships. He also contributed to the victorious 4x100-meter relay team that crossed the finish line in 43.07. Geller was named the CAC Men’s Field Athlete of the Week after a trio of fifth-place finishes in the shot put (42-2), discus (124-5) and hammer (152-11) at the Washington & Lee/VMI Carnival.

York senior BEN EDWARDS and Salisbury sophomore MATT McMURDO were selected as the CAC Track & Field Athletes of the Week for March 21, 2011. Edwards is the CAC Men’s Track Athlete of the Week after he finished second in the 110 hurdles (16.10) and third in the 800-meter run Friday in the Lebanon Valley Invitational, then bounced back with a gold medal finish in the 400 hurdles (57.49) Saturday at the West Chester Golden Rams Invitational. McMurdo is the CAC Men’s Field Athlete of the Week after he finished 12th overall, but ranked second among NCAA Division III competitors in the javelin at the Wake Forest Invitational. His toss of 194-10, which was four-feet short of his school record, was an NCAA provisional qualifying mark.

Hood sophomore BRETT SHELLEY and Salisbury senior BRANDON LANE were selected as the CAC Track & Field Athletes of the Week for March 14, 2011. Shelly is the Men’s Track Athlete of the Week for setting a pair of school records at the Coastal Carolina Invitational, completing the 5,000-meter run in 16:26.65, then following up with a 10:18.88 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Lane is the Men’s Field Athlete of the Week after he captured top honors in the long jump (21-1) and finished second in the triple jump, high jump and 110 hurdles in the season-opening Spring Classic meet at Salisbury on March 5.
