Salisbury Takes Lead Over York And Mary Washington On Opening Day Of 2012 CAC Men's Track & Field Championships

Salisbury took the top two positions in both the hammer throw and triple jump to gain the lead in the team standings after the first day of competition at the 2012 CAC Men's Track & Field Championships at Frostburg State.

Through four events, Salisbury has compiled 48 team points, followed by York (31), Mary Washington (20), Frostburg State (11), Hood (11), Wesley (2) and Stevenson (1).

Jay Drenner (183-9) and Dylan Burkett (146-10) swept the top two positions in the hammer throw for the Sea Gulls while Paul Herbert (45-3) and Travis Ford (43-11 1/4) took the top two spots in the triple jump.

York stayed close in the team standings, thanks in part to a 1-2 sweep by Steve Childress (33:12.01) and Tim Hartung (33:12.02) in the 10,000-meter run.

In the other field event final on Saturday's first day of competition, Hood's Chris DiGangi captured top honors in the pole vault (13-11 1/4).
