Salisbury Men's Track & Field Claims Fourth at NCAA Championships; Luke Campbell Repeats as National Champion in 110 and 400 Hurdles

Salisbury junior Luke Campbell added two more national championships his personal hardware on Saturday in leading the Sea Gulls to fourth place in the team standings at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Canton, N.Y. 

The CAC earned 19 total All-America honors throughout the three-day competition, with Salisbury leading the way with 13, Wesley with four and Christopher Newport with two. 

Campbell once again stole the show among CAC competitors, securing his third straight title in the 110-meter hurdles before claiming his second straight 400-meter hurdle crown. He finished the 110 hurdles in 13.63, breaking his own CAC record by .19. He crossed in the 400 hurdles at 50.57, setting a stadium record at St. Lawrence's Merrick-Pinkard Track. Campbell now has seven total national championships and three this year, as he also won the 60-meter hurdles at the indoor meet. 

In addition to his individual performance, Campbell also helped the SU 4x100 and 4x400 relays earn All-America nods with record-breaking performances. The 4x400 team of Devon Hopkins, Eric Halton, Zach Schmelz and Campbell placed 5th with a CAC record time of 3:13.33, while the 4x100 squad of Tyler Austin, Schmelz, Jerel Madison and Campbell took sixth in 41.01, a new SU school record. 

The Wesley 4x100 relay of Patrick Schlosser, DaJahn LoweryVicco Bedell and Greg Taylor also nabbed All-America honors in 8th place at 41.15. 

Christopher Newport's Daulton Teaford captured the next-best individual finish to Campbell on Saturday, placing fourth in the 200-meter dash with a mark of 21.39 to grab All-America recognition. Teammate Dominique Torres also garnered All-America placement with a seventh-place finish in the triple jump at 48-01.75. 

Salisbury's Dylan Burkett grabbed All-America honors in the shot put, claiming seventh with a throw of 54-09.25, while Frostburg State's J.R. Lowery finished 15th at 51-03.00. 

Hopkins also ran in the 400 hurdles, finishing in eighth in 52.75 seconds to earn his first All-American status with the placement, while Austin also grabbed All-America honors individually in the 100-meter dash, taking eighth in 10.43.

On the women's side, Salisbury's Meghan McGowan represented the CAC on Saturday, finishing ninth in the high jump at 5-5.25.
