Several School-Record Performances Highlight CAC Track & Field Teams' Weekend Competition

All seven CAC track & field teams competed this weekend, continuing their preparation for the upcoming CAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships set for April 22-23 at Frostburg State. 

Christopher Newport and Salisbury competed at the Colonial Relays at William & Mary, Penn State Harrisburg and York traveled to nearby Millersville for the Millersville Metrics , Frostburg State hosted its annual Bobcat Invitational, Mary Washington competed at the Roanoke Invitational, and Wesley traveled to Widener for the Daniel Curran Invitational. 

Guided by impressive performances from Ryan Scott and the squad's distance runners, Christopher Newport capped off a strong showing at the Colonial Relays on Saturday afternoon at William & Mary's Zable Stadium and Stimson Throwing Field.
 
Leading the way on the men's side, Scott notched a pair of historic efforts. The second-year speedster moved to ninth all-time in the 110-hurdles after finishing fourth in the finals with a time of 14.75. He also jumped to 10th in program history in the 400-hurdles after clocking in at 55.77 on Friday. On the women's side, Briana Stewart and Emmie Schmitt pieced together historic runs. Stewart posted a time of 4:47.86 in the 1500, while Schmitt completed the 5000 in 18:29.93. Both of those standards rank fifth in program history. 

The Salisbury men posted eight top-10 finishes at the Colonial Relays led by senior Luke Campbell, who took first in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 51.24 seconds. Campbell also placed second in the 110-meter hurdles in 14.40 seconds. The Sea Gull women were led in the meet by junior Meghan McGowan, as she placed ninth in the high jump with a leap of 5' 3".

Mary Washington competed in a field of 10 teams at the Roanoke Invitational, with the UMW women placing third and the men taking sixth. For the women, Jillian Weisbeck finished second in the 5,000 meter run at 19:10.66, while Bailey Ratliff finished second in the high jump at 1.56 meters, and Taylor Cockerille and Sheree Turner finished 1-2 in the shot put. For the men, Chris Anderson took second in the 1,500 meters at 4:10.18, while Dylon Garrett was second in the pole vault at 3.65 meters. 

At the 2016 Bobcat Invitational, the Frostburg State men claimed seven wins on a windy Saturday at Bobcat Stadium. J.R. Lowery totaled a pair of wins, two ECAC marks and another school record. He won both the shot put (16.34 meters/) and hammer throw (54.70 meters/179ft. 5in.), hit ECAC-qualifying marks in both and broke his own school record in the hammer. 

The Frostburg State women registered four wins and 13 top-five finishes. Kayla Truesdel led the way with two individual wins and a relay victory. She opened her competition with a victory in the 100-meter dash with a 12.66, just 0.01 off an ECAC Championship pace. However in her second event, the 200-meter dash, she posted a win with an ECAC-qualifying time of 25.65.

At the Millersville Metrics hosted by Millersville, the York men placed sixth out of 15 teams on Saturday. The Spartan men broke one school record, had one first-place finisher and posted 13 top-eight marks. Senior sprinter Darnell Tillman recorded a first-place finish for the third-straight outdoor meet as he won the 400m and set a new school record with a time of 21.64. The York women placed 17th out of 18 teams with five top-eight performers. 

Penn State Harrisburg also competed at Millersville, with the men finishing ninth and the women 16th. Freshman Jalil Clayton led the Lions with a trio of top-three placings, while Ashley Williams took third in the 100-meter hurdles for the women.
