Penn State Harrisburg's Yon Takes NCAA Bronze in Discus; Wesley's Trader Earns All-America Honors in Long Jump

Penn State Harrisburg's Cameron Yon finished third in the discus at the NCAA Championship on day one of the national meet on Thursday in Waverly, Iowa, while Wesley's De'Vaughn Trader also grabbed All-America honors in the long jump. 

A number of individuals and relays competed in preliminary events on day one, with Salisbury's Luke Campbell and the Wesley 4x100 relay winning their respective prelim events in impressive fashion. 

Yon, a freshman, became the first Penn State Harrisburg track & field athlete to earn All-America honors with his third-place toss of 174'-06" in the discus. Yon earned six team points for the Lions with the bronze-medal placing. 

In the long jump, Trader placed sixth to secure All-America recognition. He finished with a best jump of 23'-5.25" to notch three points for Wesley's team totals. 

Salisbury's Campbell, a senior, began the day in the 400-meter hurdles' preliminary races, torching the opposition in the second heat with the best time of the preliminaries to move on to the final race on Saturday at 3:15 p.m.. Campbell immediately took a sizable lead from the start of the race and never relinquished it, on the way to a 51.34-second time. He set the record for Walston-Hoover Stadium at Wartburg College in the effort.

The Wesley 4x100 relay of Trader, Anthony Simpson, DaJahn Lowery and Greg Taylor posted the top prelim time, racing to a time of 40.54 - the fastest in Division III this season. The Wolverine quartet will compete in the finals on Saturday at 1:05 p.m. 

The Salisbury 4x400 relay of Campbell, Jerel MadisonZach Schmelz and Eric Halton posted a school record of 3:11.19 to take third place and qualify for Saturday's finals at 4:50 p.m.. The Wesley 4x400 squad of Vicco Bedell, Nick Stenderowicz, DaJahn Lowery, and Carlton Sheppard finished 10th at 3:12.93. 

On the women's side, the Wesley 4x100 team of Quadira Minus, Elizsha Streeter, Angel Hall, and Briana Artis finished 14th with a time of 47.88.
