Southern Virginia Becomes Eighth CAC Institution to Add Men's and Women's Track & Field Programs

Southern Virginia University Athletic Director Jason Lamb announced today that the university will offer men’s and women’s indoor track and outdoor track and field in the coming 2016-17 academic year.

Southern Virginia becomes the eighth CAC institution to sponsor men's and women's track & field field with the announcement.

“We are excited for the growth in our athletics department,” Lamb said in the announcement. “We are ready to take a step forward with these additional programs and are excited to attract even more great talent to this university.”

The track teams will be the university’s 16th and 17th NCAA Division III sponsored varsity sports offered by Southern Virginia’s athletic department. The newly added track team will compete in the CAC with seven other schools that also sponsor track programs.

"We have just started a club team with about 30 current students and I have no doubt that competing at the Division III level in the Capital Athletic Conference will attract exceptional student-athletes to Southern Virginia.” remarked Charley Bowen, the vice president of student life. “It's an exciting opportunity to add track and field to Southern Virginia's outstanding lineup of intercollegiate athletic teams."

“We are opening the head coaching position today and are searching for a qualified person who can build an excellent program from the ground up,” Lamb said.
