Christopher Newport senior Zach Campbell, Salisbury senior Meghan McGowan, and Salisbury junior Eric Halton have been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Track & Field/Cross Country Team, which recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

First-team Academic All-District™ honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America® honorees will be selected later this month.

Campbell starred in the distance events for the Captains this year, establishing a new CAC record in the 800 meters and qualifying for the NCAA Championships in both the 800 and 1500. Along with his work during the outdoor campaign, Campbell also shined during the indoor season. Over the winter, he moved to second in conference history in the mile with a time of 4:14.62 and helped lead the Distance Medley Relay to its second straight appearance at the NCAA Championships. In the classroom, Campbell graduated from CNU with a degree in computer science earlier this month. He is a perennial Academic All-Conference honoree and was inducted into the Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society in 2016.

McGowan earned the honor after another standout season at high jump for the Sea Gulls. She is making her second appearance at the NCAA championships this weekend after claiming her fourth consecutive CAC title in the high jump at the conference outdoor championships. She is also the CAC championship and overall record holder in the event. In the classroom, McGowan graduated from SU with honors with a 3.51 GPA as a social work major.

Halton is also competing at the NCAA Outdoor Championships this weekend for the Sea Gulls in the 400 meters. He has twice competed in the outdoor championships as a member of the 4x400 relay, and earned first place at the CAC Championships in the 400, breaking the CAC Championship meet record. He finished third in the 400 at the NCAA Indoor Championships, earning All-America honors. In the classroom, he owns a 3.46 GPA as a political science major.
