CAC Track & Field Athletes Open NCAA Outdoor Championships on Thursday

Ten individuals and two relays from the Capital Athletic Conference opened competition at the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Thursday, with two individuals and one relay qualifying for the finals and a duo of discus throwers earning top-10 placings. 

Christopher Newport's Jeff Dover broke the CAC and school records in the 1500 meters, racing to a time of 3:49.81, the third-fastest of the prelims. Along with Dover, CNU's Zach Campbell also qualified for the finals of the 1500 after crossing the line in 3:50.90. That clocking marked the sixth-fastest time in the prelims. The 1500 finals will take place Friday at 5:10 p.m. 

The Wesley women's 4x400 relay also earned a spot in the finals, placing third in the prelims with a time of 3:46.66. The quartet for the Wolverines consists of Elizsha Streeter, Quadira Minus, Briana Artis, and Angel Hall

A trio of CAC men competed in the discus, with CNU's Brendon Burrows taking ninth place (46.42m) and Penn State Harrisburg's Cameron Yon claiming 10th place (46.39m). CNU's Legend Boyesen took 20th at 38.79m. 

The Wesley men's 4x100 relay of Patrick Schlosser, DaJahn Lowery, Greg Taylor, and Terrance Mack finished 13th with a mark of 41.84 seconds. 

Frostburg State's Kayla Truesdel took 15th place in the 200 at 25.29, while CNU's Ryan Scott finished 16th in the 200 at 21.96. 

In the other distance events, York's Alex Smith placed 16th in the 3,000m steeplechase, CNU's Grayson Reid took 19th in the 10,000m at 31:56.49, and CNU's Logan Harrington earned 21st place in the 1500m at 4:45.50.
