Record 28 CAC Student-Athletes Qualify for NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships

A conference-record 28 student-athletes will represent the Capital Athletic Conference at the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The championships are set for May 25-27 at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio. Six of the eight CAC track & field teams will be represented at the national championships.

On the men's side, 15 individuals and one relay will represent the CAC at the championship meet. Frostburg State senior J.R. Lowery is seeded second in the shot put and will aim to improve on last year's 19th-place finish. Penn State Harrisburg sophomore Cameron Yon, who took bronze in the discus at last year's meet, is seeded fourth in the event this year. 

York junior Alex Smith and Salisbury junior Eric Halton were also the lone male representatives from their teams. Smith is making his first NCAA appearance and is seeded seventh in the 3,000 Steeplechase, while Halton is seeded 14th in the 400 meters. Halton took third in the 400 at this year's indoor national championships. 

The Wesley 4x100 relay will look to defend its gold medal from the 2016 meet. Greg Taylor and DaJahn Lowery return from last year's championship squad, while Patrick Schlosser and Terrance Mack will also compete for the Wolverines in the sprint relay event. Roland Attoh-Okine will compete individually for Wesley in the 110 hurdles as the 16th seed. 

Christopher Newport is sending nine individuals to the national meet. Junior Ryan Scott (200m, 110h) and senior Zach Campbell (800m, 1500m) will compete in multiple events for the Captains. Sophomore Jeff Dover (1500m), junior Grayson Reid (10,000m), junior Jordan Roach (100h), junior Wesley Shrieves (HJ), sophomore Jonathan Graham (PV), senior Dominique Torres (TJ), junior Legend Boyson (Disc), and junior Brendon Burrows (Disc) will also compete for CNU. 

On the women's side, five individuals and one relay will represent the CAC. Salisbury senior Meghan McGowan returns to the outdoor championships as the 10th seed in the high jump, while the Wesley 4x100 team of Elizsha Streeter, Quadira Minus, Briana Artis, and Angel Hall will look to improve upon last year's third-place mark. The quartet is seeded fourth. 

Christopher Newport senior Briana Sutton is seeded third in the heptathlon, while senior teammate Logan Harrington is seeded 21st in the 1500 and CNU junior Hannah Shoemaker is seeded 14th in the shot put. 

Frostburg State junior Kayla Truesdel will represent the Bobcats in the 200 meters. She is seeded 16th in the event.
