Mary Washington Freshman Rajai Walton Sweeps Athlete & Rookie of the Year Honors on 2018 All-CAC Men's Outdoor Track & Field Team

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Mary Washington freshman Rajai Walton swept the major awards as both the CAC Outdoor Athlete and Rookie of the Year to lead the 2018 All-CAC Men's Outdoor Track & Field team. Christopher Newport head coach Tyler Wingard was selected as Coach of the Year for the third-straight season.

Walton becomes the first athlete in CAC men's track & field history to secure both the Athlete and Rookie of the Year awards in the same season. He totaled 24 points for the Eagles at the CAC Championships and was the lone male athlete to win multiple individual events, claiming gold medals in the high jump and long jump. He also placed fifth in the triple jump. Walton is the fifth Eagle to win Athlete of the Year, and first since 2006, and the seventh to claim top rookie honors.

Wingard was tabbed by his peers as the outdoor Coach of the Year after guiding the Captains to their third CAC title in a row. It marks the third-straight Coach of the Year award for Wingard, who also picked up the award at the indoor meet this past winter.

Team champion Christopher Newport earned a conference-best 13 spots on the All-CAC squad, including six first-team performers. Senior thrower Legend Hayes picked up a trio of all-conference awards, earning first-team honors in the discus and second-team recognition in the shot put and hammer throw. Hayes was a repeat second-teamer in the hammer. Additional first-team performers for the Captains were Cavanaugh McGaw in the 800, Grayson Reid in the 5,000, Joseph Lightbody in the 10,000, Ryan Scott in the 110 hurdles, and Allan Pedin in the pole vault. Scott collected his third-straight All-CAC honor in the 110 hurdles, and was also a second-teamer in the 200 meters, securing his third All-CAC award in that event.

Along with Hayes and Scott, CNU athletes to land on the All-CAC second team included senior Cullen Monahan in the 800, sophomore Jason Putnam in the 1,500, sophomore Daniel Cretney in the 3,000 steeplechase, and senior Hunter Sutliff in the 400 hurdles.

Wesley claimed nine positions on the All-CAC team, with seven in the sprints and relays. Freshman Christian Saulsbury (100), freshman Tysean Cousar (200) and senior Dominic McAnulty (400) earned first-team honors in the sprint events, while senior Greg Taylor collected second-team honors in the 100. The Wolverines won both relay events, as the 4x100 team of John Castro, Taylor, John Heriot, and Saulsbury and the 4x400 squad of Cousar, McAnulty, Thomas Kalieta, Jr., and Heriot each nabbed All-CAC first-team accolades.

Other second-team recipients for Wesley were senior Roland Attoh-Okine in the 110 hurdles, sophomore Daquay Harris-Winbush in the long jump and freshman Tre' Johnson in the triple jump.

Salisbury secured seven placing on the 2018 All-CAC team. Freshman Donovan Beckett-Simms (triple jump) and senior Duncan Ferrin (hammer) represented the Sea Gulls on the first team, while individual second-team honorees included freshman Ethan Binnix in the 400, junior Conner Masteran in the 10,000, freshman Greg Leasure in the pole vault. SU also picked up a pair of All-CAC second-team relays, with the 4x100 quartet of Jack McCloskey, Mickey Van Gieson, Chris Leby, and Jeffrey McInnis and the 4x400 team of Alex Hardman, Van Gieson, Tyler Hardman, and Binnix picking up silver medals at the championship meet.

Walton was one of three UMW athletes to pick up All-CAC nods, as senior Daniel Forjan was a first-teamer in the shot put, and sophomore Davik Danek was a second-teamer in the high jump. Forjan collected his third-straight All-CAC award in the shot put after securing second-team honors each of the last two seasons, while Danek was a repeat second-team honoree in the high jump for UMW.

York and Penn State Harrisburg each grabbed a trio of placings on the all-star squad. York's Alex Smith repeated as a first-teamer in the 3,000 steeplechase while senior Grant Dell captured first-team honors in the 1,500. Junior Ray Smith represented the Spartans on the second team in the 5,000.

Penn State Harrisburg junior Jalil Clayton was the lone Lion on the first team, taking top honors in the 400 hurdles. Second-team performers for the Lions were junior Cameron Yon in the discus and sophomore Joseph Rebarchak in the javelin. Yon claimed all-star honors in the discus for the third straight season, while Rebarchak was a repeat All-CAC honoree in the javelin.

Southern Virginia junior Derek Blasko represented the Knights on the All-CAC first team after winning the javelin throw at the championships, collecting the Knights' first-ever individual title at the CAC meet.
