FREDERICKBURG, Va. -- Christopher Newport senior Jeff Dover, Mary Washington sophomore Jeff Gibson and Penn State Harrisburg junior Cameron Yon were selected as the CAC Men's Track & Field Athlete of the Week for April 10, 2018.

Christopher Newport senior Jeff Dover was named the CAC Track Athlete of the Week for the second week in a row after establishing new conference and school records in the 1500 meters at the Colonial Relays on Friday evening. He posted a time of 3:47.81, which placed him fourth in the field and first among Division III competitors. That clocking topped his own program and CAC record of 3:49.71, which he established last year. His time also ranks first in the NCAA this year by over four seconds.

Mary Washington sophomore Jeff Gibson earned CAC Track Athlete of the Week accolades after setting new CAC and school records in the 10,000 meters at the Colonial Relays in Williamsburg. Gibson crossed the finish line in 29:58.42, besting a field made up predominately of Division I and II runners in a 31-runner field. His time broke the CAC record of York's Tim Hartung, set in 2013, by 10 seconds, and crushed UMW's 21-year-old record held by Jon Gates by 50 seconds. Gibson's mark is currently the second fastest in the nation in Division III this season.

 

 

Field Athlete of the Week

Penn State Harrisburg junior Cameron Yon received CAC Field Athlete of the Week honors after posting the fourth-best mark in Division III in the discus at the Millersville Metrics on Saturday. Yon delivered a throw of 51.56 meters, which ranks atop the CAC and fourth nationally this spring. His effort earned him second place in the event, defeating several Division II competitors.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Christopher Newport senior Brendon Burrows finished fourth overall and first among Division III competitors in the shot put at the Colonial Relays on Friday. During the meet, he unleashed a 15.75-meter throw. That equals the 10th-best effort in the NCAA this year and the finest in the CAC. It also ranks second in program history. On Saturday, he came back with a 48.64-meter heave in the discus. That placed him second overall and first among Division III entrants at the competition ... Frostburg State sophomore John Kerns collected a pair of top-five finishes at the Battleground Relays at UMW. He won the hammer throw with ECAC qualifying toss of 46.13 meters and hit another ECAC mark and took fifth in the discus (39.53 meters) ... Mary Washington senior Daniel Forjan took first in the discus at 143 feet, 4.25 inches for Mary Washington at the Battleground Relays, and was second in the shot put ... Southern Virginia junior Derek Blasko improved his career and program best in the men's javelin. He finished first with a ginormous throw of 51.43m. Sophomore Michael Myers contributed to asecond-place finish in the men's sprint medley relay and then returned to the track just a few hours later to win the 5,000 meters in 15:49.
