Salisbury Men, Mary Washington Women Take Early Lead at CAC Track & Field Championships; Salisbury's Dumas Breaks Pole Vault Record

Day 1 Results

Salisbury's Kyleigh Dumas set new CAC overall and championship-meet records in the pole vault to highlight day one of the 2018 CAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Salisbury, Md. Through five completed events, the Salisbury men and Mary Washington women have the early leads in the team standings entering Saturday's second and final day of the meet. 

Dumas proved the individual highlight of the day, posting a mark of 3.76 meters in the pole vault to claim first place and break her own conference mark of 3.66 meters that she set just two weeks ago. She also broke the CAC Championship meet mark of 3.52 meters set by Mary Washington's Claire Harrington in 2015. 

Penn State Harrisburg's Rae Rae Taylor took home two individual titles on day one, winning both the long jump (5.47m) and javelin (35.94m). Other women's individual champions on day one included Mary Washington's Jillian Weisbeck in the 10,000 meters (40:00.26) and UMW's Samantha Gorton in the hammer throw (46.95m). 

On the men's side, Salisbury's Duncan Ferrin won the hammer (57.09m), Southern Virginia's Derek Blasko claimed gold in the javelin (56.65m), Mary Washington's Rajai Walton won the long jump (7.24m), CNU's Allan Pedin took first in the pole vault (4.36m), and CNU's Joseph Lightbody crossed first in the 10,000 (33:06.06). 

Day two action will begin with the field events at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning in Salisbury.
