Southern Virginia Freshman Colter May and Wesley Freshman Tre' Johnson Named CAC Men's Track & Field Athletes of the Week

FREDERICKBURG, Va. -- Southern Virginia freshman Colter May and Wesley freshman Tre' Johnson were selected as the CAC Men's Track & Field Athletes of the Week for Dec. 5, 2017.

Southern Virginia freshman Colter May was named the CAC Track Athlete of the Week after winning the mile at the Bast-Cregger Invitational hosted by Roanoke. May raced to a time of 4:39.64 to win the event. That time ranks atop the CAC thus far this season. May also contributed to the Knights' distance medley relay team that posted a time of 10:59.2 to place second.

Wesley freshman Tre' Johnson was honored as the CAC Field Athlete of the Week after setting the school record in the triple jump at the Diplomat Open hosted by Franklin & Marshall. Johnson's mark of 14.17 meters earned him a second-place finish at the event and surpassed Wesley's previous school mark of 14.07 meters set by Raymond King in 2014. His mark ranks seventh nationally.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Five CAC men's track & field teams opened their indoor seasons this past weekend ... Frostburg State competed at the Marty Pushkin Classic at West Virginia University. Junior Hayden Tranter placed first in the 3000-meter run in 11:05.10 while junior Shamar Nelson placed second in the long jump (6.43m), third in the 200 meters (23.20) and eighth in the 60-meter dash (6.90) ... Senior Daniel Forjan turned in an outstanding weekend for Mary Washington at the Bast-Cregger Invitational at Roanoke College, as he placed second in the shot put at 14.55 meters, and fourth in the weight throw at 13.76 meters. Rajai Walton was second in the high jump, and Laurence Sneed was second in the 1000 meters ... Penn State Harrisburg junior Jalil Clayton lept to a mark of 1.98 meters in the high jump at the River Hawk Opener at Susquehanna University. Clayton then headed to the track where he shattered the school record in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.34 seconds. He also took second in the 200 meters at 22.99 seconds ... Southern Virginia junior Derek Blasko threw a career and program-best 13.66m in the shot put, finishing third in the meet ... York competed at the Diplomat Open at Franklin & Marshall. Matt Morgan took second in the 1,000 meters at 2:45.0 while Kevin Landis won the pole vault with a height of 4.40 meters.
