Four from CAC Advance to Finals at NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships

Four CAC athletes advanced to the finals of their respective events with strong showings on day one of the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in Birmingham, Ala. 

On the men's side, Christopher Newport's Jeff Dover registered the top finish of the day in the preliminaries, winning his heat in the mile with the fourth-fastest time of the two prelim heats. CNU's Cullen Monahan placed fifth in the 800 meter prelims with a time of 1:52.56, while CNU's Ryan Scott also advanced to Saturday's finals, placing seventh in the 200-meter prelims at 21.95. 

On the women's side Penn State Harrisburg's Ashley Williams finished eighth in the prelims of the 60-meter hurdles, earning a spot in the finals. 

A total of 10 competitors from the CAC competed during Friday's opening day. Other finishes throughout the conference included CNU's Cavanaugh McGaw taking 10th in the 800 (1:53.57), Frostburg State's Kayla Truesdel placing 11th in the 200 (25.25), CNU's Grayson Reid finishing 12th in the 5,000 (15:08.75), Salisbury's Jamie Farley placing 13th in the 400 (57.70), and the CNU distance medley relay of Monahan, McGaw, Billy Rabil and Kurt Waller crossing 12th (10:19.69). 

Saturday's second and final day of the championships will feature CAC athletes competing in six events. The events and EST start times are listed below. 

3 p.m. - Hannah Shoemaker, Christopher Newport - Shot Put
3:10 p.m. - Ashley Williams, Penn State Harrisburg - 60-meter hurdles
3:50 p.m. - Jeff Dover, Christopher Newport - Mile 
4:40 p.m. - Cullen Monahan, Christopher Newport - 800-meter
5:05 p.m. - Ryan Scott, Christopher Newport - 200-meter 
5:30 p.m. - Jeff Dover, Christopher Newport - 3,000 meters
