Christopher Newport's Hayes Takes Silver in Discus at NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships; Penn State Harrisburg's Yon Also Secures All-America Honors

Christopher Newport's Legend Hayes placed second in the discus to lead CAC athletes on day one of the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Thursday at the Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex in La Crosse, Wisc. 

Hayes and Penn State Harrisburg's Cameron Yon each collected All-America honors in the discus. Hayes placed second with a throw of 53.42 meters, while Yon took seventh at 51.35 meters. 

Salisbury's Kyleigh Dumas finished 11th in the pole vault with a mark of 3.65 meters, while Mary Washington's Jeff Gibson placed 13th in the 10,000 meters at 31:57.60. 

In the men's long jump, UMW's Rajai Walton took 17th (7.02m) and Penn State Harrisburg's Alex White finished 19th (6.91m). On the women's side, Penn State Harrisburg's Sarah Lehman took 18th in the long jump with a mark of 5.41 meters. 

Penn State Harrisburg's Jalil Clayton finished 20th in the 400 hurdles at 55.82 seconds, while the Lions' Rae Rae Taylor is currently in 18th place in the women's heptathlon with 2422 points through four events. 

Several CAC athletes punched their tickets in the finals with strong preliminary showings on Thursday. The Wesley women's 4x100 relay of Evelina Sloboh, Maysha Foster, Rakiya Taylor and Briana Artis posted the top prelim time at 46.58 seconds, and will compete in Saturday's finals at 1:15 p.m. EST. 

The Wesley men's 4x400 of Thomas Kalieta, Jr., John Heriot, Dominic McAnulty and Tysean Cousar also advanced to Saturday's finals (4:50 p.m. EST) with a third-place showing in the prelims at 3:10.40.

York's Alex Smith finished seventh in the 3,000-meter steeplechase prelims at 9:19.31, moving on to Saturday's finals at 12:30 p.m. EST. 

CNU's Jeff Dover advanced to the 1500 meter finals with a 10th-place mark in the prelims at 3:55.62. The 1500 meter finals are set for 1:25 p.m. EST on Saturday. 

CNU's 4x400 squad of Kurt Waller, Cavanaugh McGaw, Cullen Monahan and Ryan Scott placed 12th after finishing in 3:15.04.
