Record 30 CAC Student-Athletes Qualify for NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships

A conference-record 30 student-athletes will represent the Capital Athletic Conference at the 2018 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The championships will be held May 24-26 at the Veteran's Memorial Field Sports Complex in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Seven of the eight CAC track & field teams will be represented at the national championships. 

Action starts at 10 a.m. on Thursday and Friday, May 24-25, and at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 26.  The top-eight finishers in each even earn NCAA Division III All-America honors.  The top-22 female and top-20 male times/marks in event along with the top-16 relays teams in the nation qualified for the national championships.

NCAA Release 

On the men's side, 15 individuals and two relays will represent the CAC at the national championships. Wesley's Thomas Kalieta, Jr. and Penn State Harrisburg's Cameron Yon enter nationals as the top-seeded CAC males, both seeded No. 2 in their respective events. Kalieta Jr. is seeded second in the 400 meters while Yon will compete in the discuss for the third-straight year and is also seeded second. 

Kalieta Jr. is also a part of Wesley's 4x400 relay that is seeded fifth along with Tysean Cousar, John Heriot and Dominic McAnulty. Christopher Newport also earned a 4x400 bid as Kurt Waller, Cavanaugh McGaw, Cullen Monahan and Ryan Scott will represent the Captains, who enter as the No. 15 seed. 

Scott and Monahan will also compete individually for CNU, with Scott competing in the 110 hurdles as the No. 12 seed and Monahan in the 800 meters as the No. 9 seed. It marks the second-straight individual appearance for Scott at the outdoor meet. Other individual qualifiers for CNU include Jeff Dover in the 1,500 meters and Legend Hayes in the discus. Both making their second-straight outdoor nationals appearance, Dover is seeded fifth while Hayes is seeded fourth. 

Along with Yon, Penn State Harrisburg's Jalil Clayton will compete in both the 110 hurdles (No. 19 seed) and 400 hurdles (No. 20 seed), while Alex White will represent the Lions in the long jump (No. 14 seed). 

Salisbury will send a pair of athletes in the field events, with Donovan Beckett-Simms seeded fourth in the triple jump and Duncan Ferrin seeded seventh in the hammer throw. 

The Mary Washington trio of Jeff Gibson (10,000m), Rajai Walton (long jump) and Daniel Forjan (shot put) qualified for nationals. Gibson is seeded fourth, while both Walton and Forjan are seeded 16th in their events. 

Wesley's Roland Attoh-Okine will compete in the 110 hurdles as the No. 14 seed, while Tre' Johnson will compete individually at nationals in the triple jump as the No. 17 seed. 

York's Alex Smith qualified for the championships in the 3,000 steeplechase for the second year in a row as the Spartans lone representative. Smith is seeded 11th in the event. 

On the women's side, five individuals and one relay will represent the CAC. Frostburg State's Kayla Truesdel returns to the championships and will compete as the No. 18 seed in the 100 meters. Perennial national title contenders, the Wesley 4x100 team of Briana Artis, Evelina Sloboh, Rakiya Taylor and Maysha Foster enter the meet as the No. 3 seed. 

Penn State Harrisburg's Sarah Lehman will compete in a pair of events, the long jump and triple jump. Lehman is seeded eighth in the triple jump and 20th in the long jump. Also competing for PSH will be Rae Rae Taylor in the heptathlon, seeded 20th. 

Salisbury's Kyleigh Dumas will represent the Sea Gulls in the pole vault (seeded 17th) while Mary Washington's Erin Andrewlevich will compete for the Eagles in the 400 meters (seeded 19th).
