Mary Washington's Scott Plunkett And Salisbury's Ryan Jackson Gain Individual Awards At NCAA Regional Men's Cross Country Races

Mary Washington's Scott Plunkett earned All-South/Southeast region recognition while Salisbury's Ryan Jackson earned All-Freshman and All-Region recognition in the Mideast championship chase Saturday.

Plunkett finished 22nd overall, leading the Eagles to 9th place out of 23 teams in the South/Southeast Regional Championship at Memphis, Tenn.  UMW was the only CAC team in the meet.

The UMW men's top five saw Plunkett in 22nd place at 26:18, followed by Chris Marino in 41st place at 26:47, Sean Healy in 54th at 27:02, and Kyle Anderson in 65th at 27:18. Senior Stephen Harrison rounded out the top five in 81st place at 27:33.

At the Mideast Regional at Slippery Rock, Pa., Jackson placed 26th on the men's side, in a time of 26:05.3.  He led the Sea Gulls to eighth place out of 47 teams.

Jackson was the second-highest finishing freshman in the men's race, and landed on the All-Regional Freshman team for that accomplishment, and by finishing in the top 35, he was named to the All-Region team as well. He is the first Sea Gull runner since 2007 to be named to the All-Region team.

Senior Chris Barnard was Salisbury's second finisher, placing 41st with a time of 26:28.2 followed by sophomore Steve Berstler who crossed the line in 26:52.3 to place 66th, junior David Toller who finished 83rd with a time of 27:12.7 and junior John Fitzgerald, who rounded out Salisbury's scoring with a time of 27:20.2 to place 90th.

Other CAC teams competing at the Mideast Regional included York (25th), St. Mary's (31st), Frostburg State (36), Stevenson (37th) and Hood (38).
