York's Tim Hartung Qualifies For National Championships At NCAA Regional Men's Cross Country Championships

York sophomore Tim Hartung, the 2011 CAC champion, placed ninth overall in the regional championships and qualified to compete in the 2011 NCAA Men's Cross Country championship race.

Hartung, who covered the 8K course in 25:50, helped the Spartans finish 11th in the overall team standings with 338 points - the highest among CAC teams.

Haverford won the team title with 52 points.  Allegheny junior Bobby Over captured the individual championship, crossing the finish line in 25:25 - just 25 seconds ahead of Hartung.

Hartung is the first runner in York history to qualify for the cross country national championsihps, which will be held Nov. 19 at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.  It will also be the third-straight year, and fifth time in the last six years, the CAC has had at least one runner in the NCAA men's cross country championship chase.

CAC teams following York in the team standings were Salisbury (22nd, 596 pts.), St. Mary's (34th, 966 pts.), Hood (39th, 1,157 pts.) and Stevenson (43rd, 1,353 pts.).  Frostburg State was also represented in the race, but did not post a team score.

CAC individuals following Hartung across the finish line were teammates Steve Childres (44th, 26:50), the CAC Athlete of the Year, John Wallace (50th, 27:01) and Salisbury senior David Toller (59th, 27:13).

In the South/Southeast Regional, Mary Washington placed 9th out of 23 teams in the standings with 253 points.  Lynchburg won the regional title with 112 points.

Individually, UMW junior Sean Healy crossed the finish line 22nd overall in 27:18.  Senior teammate Kyle Anderson also finished among the top 50 runners, placing 46th overall in 28:00.

Freshman Tam Nguyen was Marymount's top finisher, placing 132nd overall in 30:52.  The Saints did not post a team score.
