York senior TIM HARTUNG (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin) was selected as the CAC Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week for Oct. 1, 2013 after placing second overall, and leading the Spartans to second place in the team standings, at the Don Cathcart Invitational at Salisbury. Hartung, the reigning CAC Athlete of the Year, won his second Athlete of the Week award this season with a season-best time of 25:13, which was 20 seconds faster than any other Div. III competitor.

Hartung emerged from the middle of the 114-runner pack in mid-race, where he was pacing his teammates, to win the 8K race comfortably in 27:02.17.

Southern Virginia junior PATRICK GONZALEZ was selected as the CAC Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week for Sept. 10, 2013 after finishing fourth overall out of 67 runners in the Washington & Lee Invitational. Gonzalez, who crossed the finish line in 28:58.20, was the top CAC runner in the meet and led the Green Knights to fourth place out of seven teams.

Christopher Newport freshman J.J. LaPointe was selected as the first CAC Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week for the 2013 season after posting the Captains’ best individual effort in the ODAC Preview Meet and leading the team to the title. LaPointe finished seventh overall, covering the 8K course at Hampden-Sydney in 27:06.30. CNU had eight runners among the Top 20 in the race and finished with a championship score of 54.
