Four CAC Men's Cross Country Teams Compete at Paul Short Invitational; Christopher Newport Wraps Up West Coast Trip

Four CAC men's cross country teams traveled to Bethlehem, Pa. on Saturday for the Paul Short Invitational hosted by Lehigh, while Christopher Newport, Frostburg State and Penn State Harrisburg also competed over the weekend. 

At the Paul Short Invitational at Lehigh, Mary Washington, Salisbury, Wesley and York all competed. 

Salisbury took second with 85 points, coming up just nine points short of Ramapo for the No. 1 spot. The Sea Gulls had three runners finish in the top-15 places, paced by junior Thomas Burke in seventh with a time of 26:10. 

Mary Washington finished 10th, led by Ben Sorenson in12th overall at 26:30. 

Wesley freshman Urgy Eado led the Wolverines, cruising to a 27:42 in the 8K to finish 55th of 225 runners in his collegiate cross country debut.  Eado's time is the third fastest in program history.

York participated in the Brown race and finished 28th out of 40 teams. The Green and White finished 15th out of Division III institutions competing in the event. The Spartans were led by freshman Grant Dell as he recorded a time of 26:24, good for a finish of 107th in the 341 participants. 

Competing in one of the largest meets on the West Coast, Christopher Newport pieced together a slew of outstanding efforts and placed fourth overall and second among Division III teams during the 40th Annual Charles Bowles Invitational at Willamette's Bush Park on Saturday afternoon. Only Oregon, who sits third in the Division I national rankings, Chico State, who ranks sixth in Division II, and Willamette beat CNU's score of 177. Overall, the Captains averaged 26:13 over the 8k, which was less than two minutes behind Oregon and 30 seconds behind Willamette.

Billy Rabil led the Captains in 36th overall with a time of 25:52.31. That clocking moves him to 16th on the program's all-time 8k performance list. JJ LaPointe, the reigning CAC Athlete of the Week, also crossed the line in under 26 minutes. The second-year standout eventually finished 38th overall in 25:55.88.

For Frostburg State, freshman Brad Baker tied his best time of the season as he led the Bobcats to a third-place finish at the Aaron Slafka Memorial Cross Country Invitational hosted by Pitt-Greesnburg and Westmoreland County Community College. Baker took fifth overall as he crossed the finish line at 27:51, tying his best time for an 8,000-meter race this season.

Penn State Harrisburg hosted a meet at Serb Park in Hershey on Friday, claiming second place. Sophomore Joey Phifer and freshman Takoda Thompson were the top two finishers for the blue and white finishing 9th and 12th respectively.
