Complete CoSIDA Academic All-America Track & Field/Cross Country Teams

St. Mary's senior cross country runner Matt Flyr has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Men's Track & Field/Cross Country Third Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Among the 46 Division III men's track & field/cross country athletes named to the three teams, Flyr was one of 12 to post a 4.0 cumulative grade point average.

Flyr is the seventh Seahawk in school history to be selected as an Academic All-America pick. He graduated on May 14 as the class valedictorian with summa cum laude honors and a Bachelors of Art in Economics.

Flyr made the school's Dean's List every semester, which awards those students who earn a minimum semester grade-point average of 3.50 or better on all courses attempted with at least 12 credit hours taken for a letter grade. Flyr was twice named a St. Mary's Scholar as well; an honor bestowed upon juniors and seniors who have earned at least 32 credit-hours and whose cumulative GPA is 3.50 or better.

He was also inducted into three national honor societies on campus – Chi Alpha Sigma, the national collegiate student-athlete honor society for juniors and seniors; Omicron Delta Kappa, the national leadership honor society; and Omicron Delta Epsilon, the world's largest academics honor society in economics.

A Nitze Scholar, he served as a St. Mary's Undergraduate Research Fellow during the summer of 2015 and received the Reynolds Economics Award as junior, which is given to the most outstanding junior or senior economics major. Along with helping his fellow student as an economics teaching assistant, Flyr chaired the St. Mary's Student Conduct Board and was a member of the nationally-recognized Ethics Bowl Team.

He landed on the CAC All-Academic Team all four years and was named the 2015-16 St. Mary's Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year. This upcoming fall, Flyr will begin a master's program in agricultural and resource economics at Colorado State University.

On the course, he was the team's No. 4 runner in his final campaign as a Seahawk, collecting three Top 30 finishes, including a season-best 23rd at the Coach Achtzehn Classic hosted by York.
