Salisbury Men's Cross Country Wins Seahawk Invitational in CAC Championship Meet Preview

The Salisbury men's cross country team captured first place in a field of nine teams at the Seahawk Invitational hosted by St. Mary's, a meet that served as a preview for the 2015 CAC Cross Country Championships on the same course. The CAC Championships are set for Saturday, Oct. 31 at St. Mary's Jefferson Patterson Park in St. Leonard, Md. 

Eight of the 10 CAC teams competed in the 8k meet, with the defending champion Sea Gulls taking first with five of the top seven finishers and 24 team points. Salisbury topped second-place Mary Washington (38 points) by 14 points to claim the team crown, while UMW's Ben Sorensen finished first individually with a time of 26:22, 10 seconds ahead of Salisbury's Connor Hesselbirg

UMW's Ian Granger claimed third, followed by SU's Malcom Milton (4th), Billy Kirk (5th), Ben Meister (6th), and Connor Masteran (7th). 

York placed third in the team standings with 91 points, paced by Christopher Sander in 16th at 28:07. 

Host St. Mary's finished fourth with 136 points. The Seahawks were led by Aiden Hennessey in 23rd place in 28:31 in the field of 95 runners. 

Following St. Mary's in the standings were Frostburg State in 5th (155), Marymount in 6th (184), Wesley in 8th (194) and Penn State Harrisburg in 9th (253). Frostburg State's Robert Romano posted an 11th-place finish at 27:40, while Marymount's Collin Chartier took 14th in 27:58.

The only two CAC squads that did not compete in the Seahawk Invitational were Christopher Newport and Southern Virginia. 

CNU competed on Friday at the 57th annual William & Mary Invitational, claiming second place out of the four competing teams. Grayson Reid led the Captains with a ninth-place effort as he helped the men finish second with 52 points.

Southern Virginia competed on Saturday at the Maroon Invitational hosted by Roanoke. The Knights took fifth out of seven teams, led by Jefferson Chandler in 12th place.
