The Christopher Newport men's cross country team secured the top four placings and landed eight runners in the top 10 en route to its second straight CAC Championship on Saturday in Hershey, Pa.

The Captains totaled 16 points to run away with the crown in dominant fashion. The 16-point team total is the lowest in the 26-year history of CAC men's cross country, topping Salisbury's mark of 21 points from the 2010 meet.

York placed second in the team standings with 53 points, followed by Salisbury in third with 86 points. Mary Washington took fourth (102 points), followed by Frostburg State (156), Southern Virginia (204), St. Mary's (212), Wesley (244), and Penn State Harrisburg (250).

Junior Grayson Reid led the way for the Captains, registering his second straight individual title and Athlete of the Year award with a time of 25:59 in the 8k course.

Reid becomes the sixth runner in CAC history to capture multiple individual conference titles, joining York's Tim Hartung (2012-13), Mary Washington's Frank DeVar (2008-09), Catholic's Michael Audette (2001-02), Goucher's Jeff Olenick (1997, 1999, 2000), and Mary Washington's Jon Gates (1995-96) in that elite club.

Joining Reid in the top four were fellow junior teammates Daniel Read, Jeffrey Dover, and JJ LaPointe in second through fourth, respectively. Junior Sam Murch (sixth), freshman Zachary Witt (seventh), and freshman Jason Putnam (eighth) also earned first team All-CAC accolades for the Captains with top-eight finishes. Witt narrowly edged Putnam for Rookie of the Year honors as the first freshmen to cross the finish line.

A trio of CNU runners earned second team All-CAC recognition with top-16 finishes - senior Andrew Benfer (10th), freshman Cavanaugh McGaw (12th), and sophomore Peyton Artz (13th).

CNU head coach Matthew Barreau was selected by his peers as the men's Coach of the Year for the second straight championship. It was his fifth Coach of the Year honor between both the men's and women's sides since the Captains joined the CAC prior to the 2013-14 season.

York finished in second place for the second year in a row, paced by top-10 placings from juniors Grant Dell and Andy MacGibbon. Dell secured first team All-CAC honors for the third straight year, while MacGibbon nabbed second-team honors for the third straight season. Junior Alex Smith (11th) and sophomore Benjamin Linne (16th) also landed on the second team for the Spartans.

Salisbury senior Connor Hesselbirg led the Sea Gulls with a 10th-place finish on his way to second-team All-CAC recognition.

Mary Washington junior Kyle Pfohl represented the Eagles on the all-conference second team with a 15th-place finish.
