Reid, Christopher Newport Capture Titles at NCAA South/Southeast Regional Championship

South/Southeast Regional Results | Mideast Regional Results 

Grayson Reid secured the individual championship and led Christopher Newport to the team title at the NCAA South/Southeast Region Championships at Berry College's Clara Bowl, highlighting regional performances around the conference on Saturday. 

CNU, Mary Washington, Southern Virginia, and Marymount competed at the South/Southeast Regional in Mount Berry, Ga., while York, Salisbury, Frostburg State, and St. Mary's ran at the Mideast Regional in Center Valley, Pa.

Eleven CAC runners earned All-Region accolades with top-35 finishes at the two regional meets.

Christopher Newport made history for the second straight year, becoming the first team in CAC history to win a regional cross country championship. With the team victory, the Captains qualify for the NCAA National Championship for the second straight year. The national meet will take place in Lousville, Ky. next Saturday. 

CNU totaled 52 points to edge out second-place Washington & Lee (58 points) for the top spot in the team standings. Reid finished in 25:02.9 to run away with the individual crown, defeating the second-place finisher by over 13 seconds. Reid is just the second CAC runner to win a regional title, joining Mary Washington's Jon Gates, who completed the feat in 1996. 

Along with Reid, five other Captains earned All-Region honors. JJ LaPointe finished fourth (25:30.9), Jeff Dover placed 13th (25:59.7), Andrew Benfer was 15th (26:05.0), Daniel Read took 19th (26:16.6), and Sam Murch finished 33rd (26:40.8). 

Mary Washington placed 12th of 29 teams, led by John Burklow in 39th place. Southern Virginia finished 24th, while Joel Juarez represented Marymount, placing 62nd individually. 

Mideast Regional | Center Valley, Pa. 

York placed fourth and Salisbury placed seventh in a field of 52 teams at the Mideast Regional hosted by DeSales. The Spartans totaled 172 points, losing to only Johns Hopkins (64 points), Haverford (65 points), and Carnegie Mellon (115). 

Salisbury tallied 283 points to take seventh, while Frostburg State finished 31st and St. Mary's took 40th. 

Earning All-Region accolades for the Spartans were Grant Dell (19th; 25:32.3), Benjamin Linne (26th; 25:40.0), Alex Smith (29th; 25:45.4), and Andy MacGibbon (32nd; 25:55.2). 

Salisbury's Malcolm Milton also secured All-Region honors, taking 35th place in 25:57.3.
