Reid, Christopher Newport Repeat as Champions at South/Southeast Men's Cross Country Regional

South/Southeast Regional Results | Mideast Regional Results 

Grayson Reid captured his second straight individual title and broke his own school record in the 8k as the senior star guided the 11th-ranked Christopher Newport men's cross country team to another NCAA South / Southeast Regional Championship with a dominant performance on Saturday at Lee Hall Mansion. 

CNU, Mary Washington, Southern Virginia, and Marymount competed at the South/Southeast Regional in Newport News, Va. while York, Salisbury, Frostburg State, and St. Mary's ran at the Mideast Regional in Carlisle, Pa. 

Twelve CAC runners earned All-Region accolades with top-35 finishes at the two regional meets.

Christopher Newport secured its second-straight regional cross country championship with a score of 43 to run away with the regional title and clinch an automatic berth to the NCAA Championships, which will take place next Saturday in Elsah, Illinois. Following CNU, Rhodes came in second overall, while Emory, Washington & Lee, and Trinity rounded out the top-five.

The team title was the second straight for the Captains and just the second in conference history, while Reid becomes the first CAC runner to win multiple regional crowns. Mary Washington's Jon Gates claimed the individual title in 1996. 

Along with Reid, six other Captains earned All-Region honors. JJ LaPointe finished fourth (24:19.6), Jeff Dover placed fifth (24:20.3), Cavanaugh McGaw was 13th (24:55.5), Billy Rabil took 20th (25:11.8), Jason Putnam finished 27th (25:22.4), and Peyton Artz placed 30th (25:26.4). 

Mary Washington finished eighth of 32 teams, led by Jeff Gibson in ninth with a time of 24:45.0. Kevin Jones also earned all-region accolades for the Eagles in 31st place at 25:26.6. 

Southern Virginia took 13th place, led by Michael Myers in 33rd place.  

Mideast Regional | Carlisle, Pa.

York placed fourth in a field of 51 teams to lead the five competing CAC teams at the Mideast Regional hosted by Dickinson. The Spartans totaled 196 points, falling to only Haverford (25), Carnegie Mellon (96), and Johns Hopkins (106). 

Salisbury took 11th place, Frostburg State finished 31st and St. Mary's placed 44th. 

Earning All-Region accolades for the Spartans were Alex Smith (17th; 25:45.0) and  Grant Dell (24th; 25:49.9).
