York Clinches Fifth CAC Men's Cross Country Championship

York placed all seven runners inside the top-18 to capture its fifth overall CAC men's cross country title on Saturday at the 2019 Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) Men's Cross Country Championship on their home turf at Reservor Park on the campus of York College. The Spartans captured back-to-back titles scoring 36 points total to best Christopher Newport (46 points) by ten.

Southern Virginia senior Mike Myers was named CAC Champion after he ran the 8k track in 26:36.67 to best the runner-up and defending champion from Mary Washington Jeff Gibson by seven seconds.

Justin Smyth led York to the team titles with a third place finish (27:12.44), while the Spartans occupied positions 5-through-7 with Isaac Valderrabano, Jake O'Neill and Benjamin Russell, respectively. 

CNU was guided by Jason Putnam's fourth place finish as four of his teammates held the 9-10-11-12 spots to boost the Captains' runner-up showing.

York's Isaac Valderrabano collected CAC Rookie of the Year honors as the top freshman finisher. Valderrabano placed fifth with a time of 27:28.36. 

First team all-conference honors were awarded to positions 1-8, while places 9-16 achieved second team accolades.

Note: CAC Athlete of the Year, Coaching Staff of the Year and Scholar-Athlete of the Year will be determined following nationals.
