Salisbury and Christopher Newport Advance to NCAA Softball Regional Championship Round

Salisbury edged Johnson & Wales (R.I.) in the second game of its NCAA Softball Regional to advance to the championship round, while Christopher Newport suffered a setback to Virginia Wesleyan in extra innings before advancing to the championship through the loser's bracket of their regional.

At the Ewing, N.J. regional hosted by TCNJ, Salisbury downed Johnson & Wales 7-6 to move on to the regional championship. The Sea Gulls will take on the winner from Sunday's first game between Johnson & Wales and Moravian. With a win in the contest, Salisbury will advance to next week's NCAA super regional. With a loss, the teams would meet again on Monday in a winner-take-all contest.

At the Newport News, Va. regional hosted by CNU, the Captains dropped an eight-inning heartbreaker to Virginia Wesleyan, 7-6, in a winner's bracket contest on Saturday afternoon. CNU then bounced back with a 7-6 victory of its own in an elimination game against Gettysburg.

The Captains will take on Virginia Wesleyan in the championship beginning on Sunday at noon. CNU must win twice to move on to next weekend's super regional round.
