Ten CAC Softball Players Collect NFCA All-Region Honors
Complete NFCA All-Region Teams
Ten CAC softball players have been named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Mid-Atlantic Region Team, announced Wednesday. CAC champion Christopher Newport led the way with six all-stars, Salisbury placed three on the team, and Wesley earned one selection.
The All-Region squad is comprised of three 15-player teams in each of the country’s eight NCAA regions. CNU was one of five schools that placed the maximum six players on their respective All-Region team.
Four players earned Mid-Atlantic Region first team honors - Christopher Newport's Patty Maye Ohanian and Leah Andrews along with Salisbury's Annie Pietanza and LeAnne Collins. Andrews, Pietanza and Collins were each repeat All-Region selections.
Landing on the second team from the CAC were CNU shortstop Rachael Payne, the CAC Player of the Year, as well as Salisbury's Dakotah Fraley. Payne earns back-to-back All-Region nods after receiving first-team honors last spring.
Third team honorees included CNU's Liz Andrews, Aubrey Bates and Grace Wild and Wesley's Ashley Royer. Bates, Wild and Royer were each repeat All-Region picks.
All-Region players are nominated and selected by NFCA member coaches in each of the eight Division III regions. First team All-Region choices are eligible for selection to the NFCA All-America team, which will be announced the evening of May 23 online at NFCA.org and in person at the NCAA Division III Championship banquet in Oklahoma City.
