FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Salisbury freshman Jillian Jones & senior Shannon Powell swept the CAC Softball Players of the Week for April 1, 2019.

Salisbury freshman Jillian Jones was stellar throughout Salisbury's 4-0 week, but saved her most important hits for a DH sweep of Penn St. Harrisburg. In the opener, ahead 3-0 in the sixth inning, Jones belted her first collegiate home run -- a three-run shot -- to put the game out of reach. In the second game of the double dip, Salisbury needed a seventh-inning run to tie the game and force extras. In the bottom of the ninth inning, with two outs, Jones came to the plate with a chance to end the game and did just that, sending a single to left field, scoring Dakotah Fraley from third base for the 5-4, walk-off victory.

Salisbury senior Shannon Powell appeared in all four games for Salisbury in the past week, making one start and coming out of the bullpen three times, earning all four wins for the Sea Gulls. Powell pitched 18 total innings, allowing one unearned run for a 0.00 ERA while giving up just 14 hits and striking out four.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Frostburg's Emily Moll picked up her third win of the season after tossing all 8.0 innings with one strikeout in a win over Dickinson...York's Ginger Lewis had a solid week in the circle despite having just a 1-2 record. Lewis tossed three complete games while posting a 1.69 ERA an striking out 12. She allowed just five earned runs in 20.2 innings on the week...Mary Washington's Megan Hibbs turned in a big week as Mary Washington topped Eastern Mennonite and York in the CAC opener. On Wednesday, Hibbs gained a win in relief, allowing no earned runs on two hits in 3.2 innings, walking three and striking out two in a 7-2 Eagle win. She then threw a one-hit gem in a complete game shutout over the Spartans, allowing two walks and striking out four in seven innings...Christopher Newport's Kaitlyn Hasty smacked three home runs in a doubleheader sweep Saturday at Southern Virginia, leading the top-ranked Captains to 12-0 and 12-2 wins to open CAC play. She drove in six runs and now has a team-high nine home runs for the season. Hasty hit a three-run shot in the opener and then recorded a solo blast and two-run dinger in the nightcap. The Captains are now 18-2 and ranked first in the Too 25 for the first time in program history...Mary Washington's Caroline Bird had eight hits in 15 at bats for a .533 batting average this week in four games, including multiple hits in three of UMW's games, and three doubles. She had a two singles, a double, and two RBI in a win over Eastern Mennonite, and then posted two hits and two RBI in game two. On Saturday against York, Bird had three hits in the nightcap, an 8-1 Eagle victory, with a double and run scored. Her OPS for the week was 1.266...Penn State Harrisburg's Nina Bruno provided the Lions with a jolt at the plate last week, hitting .364 with a slugging percentage of .545 and an OPS of just under .950. The senior had eight hits, including a home run and a double. She drove in four runs and scored four more. At her shortstop position, she recorded nine putouts and racked up assists on 17 more.
