FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Christopher Newport freshman Caitlin Abernethy & junior Trish Webb swept the CAC Softball Players of the Week Awards for April 8, 2019.

Christopher Newport freshman outfielder Caitlin Abernethy was ten for 14 at the plate this week as the top-ranked Captains went 4-1, including two conference victories over Frostburg State. The freshman outfielder scored six times and drove in six, and posted a home run at Randolph-Macon.

Christopher Newport junior Trish Webb registered a 2-1 record this week, notching wins over Frostburg State and Meredith. Her ERA was 0.93 for the week, and her loss came at Randolph-Macon thanks to six unearned runs.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Frostburg State's Amber Keene hit .429 with six RBI, five runs and an HR in six games last week for Frostburg...York's Taylor Lindsay has an outstanding week at the plate for the Spartans as she went 7-for-14 for a .500 average while slugging 1.071. Lindsay had two doubles and a pair of homeruns while driving in four on the week. She also tossed two scoreless innings in the circle during the week...Salisbury's Kaleigh Edwards helped the Sea Gulls to a 4-2 week, by leading the team with a .591 batting average to go with four extra-base hits (two doubles, a triple, and a home run) while driving in three runs and scoring seven...Mary Washington's Juliet Truslow won both of her starts this week as Mary Washington climbed into second place in the league standings. She allowed one run on six hits in a 3-1 win over Salisbury on Wednesday, and then battled to a 3-2 win over Penn State Harrisburg on Saturday, scattering nine hits with two runs allowed in a complete game victory. She struck out five on the week while allowing two walks… Junior Danielle Newman logged five hits in nine at bats for the Eagles this week, including a triple. She had four hits in a twinbill sweep of Harrisburg...York's Ginger Lewis appeared in four games in the circle for the Spartans as they went 3-1 on the week. Lewis went 2-0 while also picking up a save. She hurled 13.2 innings on the week posting a 1.54 ERA and striking out 17...Salisbury's Shannon Powell appeared in all six of Salisbury's game this past week, starting three of them, posting a 4-1 record with a 1.53 ERA ... She went the distance in all three of her starts...Powell struck out 17 batters in 32 innings, while giving up 34 hits...Mary Washington's Juliet Truslow won both of her starts this week as Mary Washington climbed into second place in the league standings. She allowed one run on six hits in a 3-1 win over Salisbury on Wednesday, and then battled to a 3-2 win over Penn State harrisburg on Saturday, scattering nine hits with two runs allowed in a complete game victory. She struck out five on the week while allowing two walks...Penn State Harrisburg's Allison Hartman etched her name in the school's record book last week when she set the program's single-game record for strikeouts with 15 against Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) foe York (Pa.) on Wednesday afternoon.
