Mary Washington Clinches Pod A, Will Face CNU in CAC Softball Tournament Championship Series
Top-seeded Mary Washington prevailed from Pod A with a 10-2 victory in a winner-take-all contest over No. 4 York (Pa.) in the 2019 CAC Softball Tournament and will play host to next weekend's CAC Championship Series vs. No. 2 Christopher Newport.
UMW's leadoff hitter Rachel Porchie went 3-for-3 on the day with 5 RBI to lead the Eagles to victory, including a 2-run home run in the second inning as Mary Wash posted four runs in the first, two in the second and four more in the third to take a commanding 10-2 advantage. Porchie was followed in the lineup by Danielle Newman and Hannah Bruns who also recorded three hits each in the win. Juliet Truslow earned the win on the mound for Mary Washington.
CNU cruised to victory on Sunday (April 28) morning with a 9-1 victory in six innings over No. 5 Frostburg State. The Captains went 3-0 in Pod B action over the weekend as they eliminated both Salisbury and Frostburg to advance in the league tournament.
Mary Washington will advance to face Christopher Newport in a best-of-three championship series Friday & Saturday, May 3-4 in Fredericksburg. The complete tournament schedule is below:
