Five different teams earned victories on Saturday (April 27) as pod play got underway to commence the 2019 CAC Softball Tournament.

The six-team, double elimination format saw one team go unbeaten on the first day (Christopher Newport, 2-0) with one team eliminated from the tournament (Salisbury, 0-2).

In Pod A, No. 1 Mary Washington went 1-1 on the day after an 8-4 victory over No. 6 Southern Virginia was followed up by a 7-3 defeat at the hands of No. 4 York. No. 6 Southern Virginia also scored three runs in the final two innings to stun York  by a 3-2 final as all three teams are still alive after the first day with 1-1 records. 

Since Southern Virginia does not compete on Sunday's, Pod A action will resume on Monday with York facing Southern Virginia, with the winner facing Mary Washington for a spot in the CAC finals.

CNU controlled play in Pod B on Saturday as the Captains recorded a pair of victories over No. 5 Frostburg (8-2) and No. 3 Salisbury (10-2, 6 inn.), who were eliminated from competition after their second loss of the day. FSU earned a 10-9 win over Salisbury earlier in the day to put Salisbury on the brink of elimination.

Pod B action on Day 2 will begin with Christopher Newport battling Frostburg State at 11 a.m. as the Bobcats need to win two contests to advance to the second weekend.

The winners of each of the pods will advance to a best-of-three championship series May 3-4 at the field of the highest remaining seed. The complete tournament schedule is below:
