2024 C2C Indoor Track and Field Awards Revealed

Following the close of the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field National Championships, the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) has announced its awards winners for the 2024 indoor season: 

Men's Athlete of the Year: Eric Anderson - UC Santa Cruz

Eric Anderson set a new school and conference record (4:05.57) en route to finishing as the runner-up in the mile at the 2024 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.  Anderson was also part of the UC Santa Cruz distance medley relay squad that broke the program and league marks.  He took the C2C title in the mile for the second straight year, and was runner-up in the 800m, scoring 18 points for the Banana Slugs at the conference meet.

Women's Athlete of the Year: Katie Stevens - Christopher Newport

Katie Stevens placed 12th in the weight throw (17.39m) at the 2024 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.  She repeated as the C2C field athlete of the meet with triumphs in the weight throw and shot put as the Captains won their fourth straight and ninth overall league title.  Stevens broke the conference record in the weight throw with a 17.56m effort at the region qualifier.

Men's Rookie of the Year: Evan Young - Christopher Newport

Evan Young scored 13 points at the C2C Championships as the Captains won their fourth straight and seventh overall title.  He placed third in the 5,000-meters and mile, and was sixth in the 3,000-meters.

Women's Rookie of the Year: Elena Stanciu - UC Santa Cruz

Elena Stanciu anchored the UC Santa Cruz distance medley relay (12:35.39) that set a new C2C Championships record.  She also placed third in the 3,000-meters at the conference meet.  Stanciu was also part of the DMR squad that set a new C2C record with a time of 12:11.91 at the Wartburg Qualifier.

Men's Scholar-Athlete of the Year: Daniel Ferrante - Christopher Newport

Daniel Ferrante, a computer science major, recorded 14 points at the C2C Championships to help CNU win its fourth consecutive and seventh overall title.  He finished second in the mile, fourth in the 3,000-meters, and fifth in the 5,000-meters.

Women's Scholar-Athlete of the Year: Hanna Hekkanen - UC Santa Cruz

Hanna Hekkanen, a plant sciences and agroecology major, was a double winner (800m and mile) at the conference championships, with a C2C meet record performance in the mile (5:07.89).  At the Wartburg Qualifier, she helped the UC Santa Cruz DMR squad that set a new C2C record with a time of 12:11.91.

Men's Coaching Staff of the Year: Tyler Wingard - Christopher Newport

Head coach Tyler Wingard led the Captains to its fourth straight and seventh overall C2C Championship.  CNU tallied 202 points with four league titles and seven runner-up finishes.  Additionally, two Captains earned bids to the NCAA Championships as Wade Dunkelberger placed ninth in the high jump and CJ Reeders competed in the triple jump.  Wingard was acknowledged for the fourth consecutive year and seventh time overall.

Women's Coaching Staff of the Year: Tyler Wingard - Christopher Newport

Winning the fourth straight and ninth overall C2C indoor league title at CNU, head coach Tyler Wingard's team amassed 198 points at the conference meet.  During the meet, the Captains captured eight conference crowns and five second-place finishes.  Moreover, Katie Stevens earned a spot in the NCAA Championships and placed 12th in the weight throw.  Wingard was honored for the third straight year and sixth time overall.
