UCSC’s Hekkanen, CNU’s Stevens Garner C2C Women's Track and Field Weekly Honors

The Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) has announced its weekly awards following the ninth week of the 2023-24 track and field season. UC Santa Cruz's Hanna Hekkanen was named C2C Women's Track Athlete of the Week, while Christopher Newport's Katie Stevens earned C2C Women's Field Athlete of the Week recognition.

WOMEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Hanna Hekkanen, UC Santa Cruz

At the Mike Fanelli Track Classic, Hekkanen was seventh in her heat comprised of Division I athletes in the 800m, finishing in 2:20.16. She ran a 4:44.34 in the 1500m, placing 46th overall out of over 150 participants which ranks 39th in Division III. Hekkanen also was the anchor for distance medley relay squad that placed eighth overall.

WOMEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Katie Stevens, Christopher Newport

Stevens broke the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference record in the hammer throw during the Blue & Silver Challenge on Saturday. In the event, she posted a 52.82-meter launch, which eclipsed the previous league standard of 51.35 meters set by Goucher's Natalie Williams in 2004. It also moved her to third on the national charts this year and eclipsed her own school record of 49.72 meters, which she set during last year's league meet. Along with her work in the hammer, she set a new PR in the discus with a 41.30-meter heave, which marked the third-longest throw in program history and the 19th-longest in the NCAA this year. Additionally, she posted the conference's top javelin mark this season with a 28.26-meter effort.
