UCSC’s Janku, CNU’s Stevens Named C2C Women's Track and Field Athletes of the Week

The Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) has announced its weekly awards following the 11th week of the 2023-24 track and field season. UC Santa Cruz's Helena Janku captured C2C Women's Track Athlete of the Week acclaim, while Christopher Newport's Katie Stevens earned C2C Women's Field Athlete of the Week honors.


WOMEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Helena Janku, UC Santa Cruz

Janku set the school record in the 5,000-meters at the Bryan Clay Invitational with a time of 17:01.71.  That is the second-best time in West Region this year and ranks 24th in Division III.


WOMEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Katie Stevens, Christopher Newport

Stevens continued her historic season while setting a new PR in the discus on Saturday during the Dennis Craddock Coaches Classic at Lynchburg. In the event, she landed a 43.60-meter heave, which won the event and topped her previous personal-best by over seven feet. It also was the second-longest effort in program history, moved her into the top-20 nationally, and marked the longest throw in the league this year by over 17 feet.

C2C HIGHLIGHTS

Christopher Newport's Ellie Nuckols moved to the top spot in the conference in a pair of events at the Dennis Craddock Coaches Classic on Saturday at Lynchburg. During the meet, she won the 400 in 58.33, which shaved over two seconds off her previous PR and marked the top clocking in the league this year by over a full second. Later, she came back with a 1:05.28 mark in the 400-hurdles. That was the 10th-fastest time in school history and the finest effort in the conference this season by over five seconds. It also moved her into the top-40 on the national charts… Mary Washington sophomore Sophia Redmond led the Eagles at the Dennis Craddock Invitational in Lynchburg this weekend. Redmond finished in second place in the 100 meters, at 12.21, and sixth in the 200 meters, at 25.76. Redmond is ranked 39th nationally in the 100, and ran a PR in the 200… Salisbury's Anna Bodmer won the 3,000 meters at the Delaware State Invitational, breaking the tape in a time of 10:36.67… UC Santa Cruz's Kailey Leba had a pair of PRs at Chuck Buettner Twilight to help team place third overall. FInished sixth in both Javelin (24.79) and Discus (23.79)… Salisbury's Madison Lamb placed second in the high jump at the Delaware State Invitational, clearing a personal record 1.59m (5-2.5)… Pratt rookie Hannah Kim won the women's discus for the second time in as many weeks in collegiate competition. Her throw of 38.22 meters bested the field of 41. She also collected a 19th-place finish in the shot with a throw of 9.63 meters.
