
UCSC’s Hekkanen, CNU’s Eley Named C2C Women's Track and Field Athletes of the Week
The Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) has announced its weekly awards following the fifth week of the 2024-25 track and field season. UC Santa Cruz's Hanna Hekkanen claimed C2C Women's Track Athlete of the Week honors, while Christopher Newport's Ashley Eley earned C2C Women's Field Athlete of the Week recognition.
WOMEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Hanna Hekkanen, UC Santa Cruz
UC Santa Cruz senior Hanna Hekkanen led the Banana Slugs strong showing in the mile with a personal best time of 5:02.08 at the Portland Indoor Meet. The effort ranks 27th in Division III.
WOMEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Ashley Eley, Christopher Newport
Making her first appearance in the triple jump this year, Christopher Newport sophomore Ashley Eley climbed to 26th on the national charts in the event with her performance at the Camel City Invitational on Saturday in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. During the competition, the sophomore landed a distance of 11.40 meters. That marked the sixth-longest jump in school history and the finest effort by a Captain since 2003. It also was the top performance by a league competitor since 2019 and moved her to first on the conference leaderboard this year by over a foot.

C2C HIGHLIGHTS
Christopher Newport's Sydney Trussell starred in a pair of sprints during the Betty Rogers Invitational on Saturday at the Virginia Beach Sports Center. She posted a win in the 400 with a time of 59.33. That marked the second-fastest clocking in the league this year, trailing only her own 59.25 mark at the Patriot Games in January. She also added a season-best time in the 200 after crossing the line in 25.94, which was the top effort by a Division III competitor at the meet… The Mary Washington women had a pair of top performances from freshman Lily Hoffman this weekend at Liberty. She shined in the 5000 meters, as she finished second at 18:13.19, and then took fifth in the 3000 meters, at 10:22.67, a personal best time… UC Santa Cruz's Allyson Petersen cleared 2.90m (9' 6.25") in the pole vault, securing a solid performance for the Slugs in the event and a new personal best… Salisbury's Mia Hill, a Tabernacle, N.J. native, earned a third-place finish in the long jump at the Big Apple Invitational. Hill posted a mark of 5.39 meters to finish behind two Division I athletes from Sacred Heart.
