Mary Washington Captures Third Place in 2007 NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament
The University of Mary Washington women's basketball team
defeated New York University, 74-63, in the NCAA Division III
Championship Consolation Game on Saturday in Springfield,
Massachusetts. The Eagles close the season with their 31st win of
the season, tied for the most wins in the nation, and closes the
most successful season in school history with a 31-3 record.
Senior Debbie Bruen closed her All-America career with a game-high
21 points, and added eight rebounds and six assists. Lisa Tracy
scored a season high 18 points with seven rebounds, and Liz Hickey
scored 14 points in 21 minutes with seven rebounds and five blocked
shots. The victory for the Eagles gives the team 31 wins for the
season, two more than last year's 29-2 squad, breaking the school
record for season wins in the team's first-ever Final Four
appearance. Additionally, head coach Deena Applebury was selected
as the 2007 Russell Athletic/WBCA National Collegiate Athletic
Association Division III Coach of the Year by the Women's
Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA).
