Mary Washington Center Liz Hickey Named One Of 10 Finalists For 2008 Jostens Award

University of Mary Washington All-America center Liz Hickey (Virginia Beach, Va./Bishop Sullivan) has been named one of 10 finalists for the Jostens award, given to the top player in NCAA Division III basketball by the Salem, Va. Rotary Club.

Hickey, who leads UMW with 14.3 PPG and 8.6 rebounds per game, recently broke the NCAA Division III career blocked shots record.

She led the Eagles to a 24-2 overall record entering Thursday's CAC playoff semifinal game against York.  Mary Washington, the top-ranked team in the NCAA Division III Atlantic Region, won the CAC regular-season title with a 15-1 mark.

Hickey is also an excellent student in her mathematics major, and is very involved in the Fredericksburg and UMW communities as well. She is UMW's third finalist for the award in the past two years, as Justin Baker and Debbie Bruen were finalists for the award last year.

The recipients of the Jostens Award will be announced at the men's Division III Final Four in several weeks.
