York's Keli Ward Named The Feb. 23 CAC Women's Basketball Player Of The Week

York senior guard KELI WARD (Nottingham, Pa./Oxford) was named the CAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week after averaging 19.5 points, 8.0 assists, 5.0 rebounds, 4.5 steals, 2.0 blocks and shooting 55.6% from the field (45.5% from three-point range) in leading the Spartans to a pair of victories and the 2008-09 regular-season title. Ward helped seventh-ranked YCP extend its win streak to 24 games and become the first team in conference history to go 16-0 by scoring a game-high 24 points, along with five assists, five steals and four rebounds in a “Senior Night” victory over second-place Marymount.

Mary Washington freshman guard JENNA McRAE (Springfield, Va./Annandale) was named the CAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the first time in her career after averaging 17 points in a pair of wins for the Eagles, who are tied with Marymount as the 25th-ranked team in the country, according to the USA Today/ESPN/WBCA Division III poll. McRae doubled her season average with a game-high 21 points, including five long-range shots, in a midweek win over Salisbury. She then added 13 scores, six boards and four assists in Saturday’s victory at Hood.

York senior guard KELI WARD (Nottingham, Pa./Oxford) was named the CAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the third time this season, and the second time in the last three weeks, after shooting 60.5% from the field (23-for-38), including 62.5% from long range (10-for-16) and registering double-doubles in all three games this week, including YCP’s road victory in the battle of Top 25 teams at Marymount Saturday. Ward started the week with 24 points and 10 boards in a home win over Wesley, which is tied for second place heading into the second half of the CAC season. She finished the week with her 20th career double-double - 20 scores and 10 caroms - at 18th-ranked Marymount, which led the Spartans to its school-record 16th-straight win.

Wesley junior forward COLLEEN THOMAS (Howell, N.J./Howell) was named the CAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week after averaging 18 points per game and shooting 60% from the field as the Wolverines won two CAC games and stayed within one game in the loss column of being in first place. Thomas dropped in 15 points on 7-for-13 shooting and added three boards, two blocks and a steal in the Rt. 13 rivalry vs. Salisbury. Saturday, Thomas drained 21 points on 8-for-12 shooting, including 4-for-6 from long range, and added eight rebounds and two thefts in a win over Hood.

York senior guard KELI WARD (Nottingham, Pa./Oxford) was named the CAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the second time this season after averaging 21 points, 5.5 rebounds, 8.5 assists and 2.0 steals in a pair of Spartan victories, including a midweek upset win at 17th-ranked Mary Washington that snapped a 35-game home-court win streak for the Eagles. Ward tallied 19 points and dished out a career-high and school record 13 assists against UMW. Saturday, Ward knocked down 16 of her game-high 23 points in the second half to help YCP pull away from Salisbury. Her 1,242 points rank eighth on York’s career scoring list.

Marymount senior guard KATHRYN WILSON (Richmond, Va./St. Gertrude) was named the CAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week after scoring 31 points, grabbing 10 rebounds, two steals and dishing out six assists in a pair of tournament games in Florida. Wilson’s best game was a 19-point performances, which was a game and season-high total, with four boards and five assists in the a six-point setback against 9th-ranked Simpson College. She has reached double-digits in all eight MU games this season.

Marymount senior guard CAROLYN RILEY (Warrenton, Va./Liberty) was named the CAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week after averaging 18 points and shooting 50% from the field (15-for-30) in a pair of victories for the 15th-ranked Saints. Riley dropped in the first five points of the game and had 16 of her season-high 22 points in the opening 20 minutes of Saturday’s CAC win at St. Mary’s.
