Five From CAC Named To The 2012 D3hoops.com All-Region Women's Basketball Squad
Mary Washington coach Deena Applebury and four CAC players - York's April Sparkman, Marymount's Katelyn Fischer and UMW seniors Jenna McRae and Katie Wimmer - were named to the 2012 D3hoops.com All-Region Women's Basketball team.
Applebury was named the Atlantic Region Coach of the Year after leading the Eagles to the 2012 CAC regular-season and playoff crowns. The five-time CAC Coach of the Year guided her team to a 30-1 overall record and the team's second trip to the NCAA Division III Elite 8.
York senior guard April Sparkman was a first-team selection after leading the Spartans to a 24-6 overall record, including a second-place finish in the regular season and the team's second trip to the NCAA Sweet 16 in the last four years. Sparkman was a first-team All-CAC honoree.
Fischer, the 2012 CAC Player of the Year, was named a second-team all-region player this year. She led the 2012 Saints to a 14-13 overall record, a fourth-place finish in the regular seaosn and an appearance in the CAC Tournament semifinals.
McRae and Wimmer, four-year starters for the Eagles, joined Fischer as second-team all-region honorees. They both capped outstanding careers with first-team 2012 All-CAC recognition.
