Salisbury Junior Forward Katie McGahagan Tabbed As CAC Women's Basketball Player Of The Week

Salisbury junior forward KATIE McGAHAGAN (Pasadena, Md./Northeast) was named the CAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week after averaging 19.5 points and 8.0 rebounds in a pair of conference road victories that clinched the Gulls’ first home playoff game since 2003. MaGahagan had 18 points and nine boards in a mid-week win at St. Mary’s, then followed up with 21 points and seven caroms at Frostburg State. She shot 58.3% fron the field (14-for-24) and 83.3% from the foul line (83.3%) in the two games.

Marymount junior guard KATELYN FISCHER (Reisterstown, Md./Seton Keough) was named the CAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week after scoring 18 points in each game and adding 17 rebounds, 11 assists and two steals as the Saints moved up to fourth place in the CAC standings. Fisher started the week helping the Saints to a two-point road win at Salisbury, followed Friday by being named to the Capital One Academic All-District team, then posted a double-double with 18 points and 11 boards in Saturday’s victory over St. Mary’s.

Mary Washington senior guard JENNA McRAE (Springfield, Va./Annandale) was named the CAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the second-straight week after averaging 12.5 points, 6.0 assists, 4.0 rebounds and shooting 48% from the field against a pair of local CAC rivals, extending the 9th-ranked and undefeated Eagles’ winning streak to 20 games this season. McRae tallied 13 points, four boards and six helpers in UMW’s midweek victory over arch-rival Marymount, then added 12 scores, four caroms and six assists in Saturday’s triumph over St. Mary’s.

York sophomore forward BRITTANY HICKS was named the CAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week after averaging 13.5 points, 13.0 rebounds and recording a double-double in each game, leading the Spartans to a pair of CAC victories to solidify their hold on second place in the conference standings. Hicks had 15 points and a career-high 15 rebounds in a midweek victory at Hood. She followed up with a 12-point, 11-rebound performance - her fifth double-double of the season and sixth of her career - in the battle for second place against Salisbury Saturday.

Mary Washington junior center CAROL DYE was named the CAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week after averaging 13.0 points and 7.5 rebounds and leading the Eagles to victories over a pair of CAC rivals that were undefeated in conference play prior to the game. Dye hit 8-of-11 field goal attempts on the way to a game-high 16 points and just missed a double-double with nine rebounds in a midweek win at Salisbury. She then went 5-for-9 from the field on the way to a 10-point, six rebound performance in Saturday’s showdown vs. York. For the week, she hit 65% from the field and added two assists and two steals for the 15th-ranked Eagles.

Wesley junior guard JAZMINE MILLER (Dover, Del./Dover) was named the CAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week after pouring in a career-high 30 points and adding 10 boards for her first double-double of the season. Miller drained 11 of 16 field goal attempts (68.8%), including 5 of 8 three-point tries, which matched her career best performance from long range. She also dished out two assists and had two steals in Wesley’s second win of the season.

Mary Washington senior guard KATIE WIMMER (Vienna, Va./James Madison) was named the CAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week after scoring a game-high 24 points in leading the 21st-ranked Eagles past rival Christopher Newport, which advanced to the Div. III Final Four in 2011. Wimmer drained two of her seven field goals from long range and added a perfect performance on eight tries from the free throw line. She also chipped in three defensive rebounds, three assists and four steals, helping the Eagles improve to 8-0 for the season.

York sophomore forward KRISTEN HALEY (Silver Spring, Md./Georgetown Visitation) was named the CAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week after averaging 17.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, shooting 50% from the field, 100% from the charity stripe and adding two assists, a steal and three blocked shots for the defending conference champion Spartans. Haley poured in a game-high 23 points, hitting 8-of-14 from the field, and grabbing 11 caroms in a midweek victory over visiting St. Mary’s. It was her second double-double of the season and ninth of her career.

York senior guard APRIL SPARKMAN was named the CAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week after averaging 25.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and shooting 59.3% from the field (16-for-27) in a pair of CAC wins for the Spartans. Sparkman opened the week with a double-double, including a team-record 36 points and 12 rebounds, at Wesley. In the rematch of the 2011 CAC championship game foes, Sparkman drained 11-for-15 from the field, including 6-for-9 from three-point range, and had a perfect night on eight tries from the free throw line. Saturday, Sparkman added 14 scores, five boards, two assists, two steals and a blocked shot in a defensive struggle vs. Marymount.
