Strong Defensive Efforts Lift Top-Seeded Marymount And #2 Seed Mary Washington Into CAC Women's Basketball Title Game

A pair of strong defensive efforts, where the home team held the visitors to less than 50 points, lifted both Marymount and Mary Washington into the 2013 CAC Women's Basketball championship game.

Top-seeded Marymount  (22-4) denied fourth-seeded Salisbury (15-12) in Thursday's semifinal battle, winning 61-46.  The Saints, the regular-season champions who are ranked fourth in the region, earned home court advantage in Saturday's CAC title game, which tips off at 2 p.m.

In Thursday's other semifinal - a re-match of the 2012 CAC title contest - #2 seed Mary Washington (20-6) outdueled #3 seed York (20-7) by a 55-49 count.  UMW entered the game ranked #6 in the region while YCP is ranked #7.

Mary Washington, the defending CAC Champion, will play Marymount for the title for the second time in the last four years.  The Saints won the last championship game meeting in Fredericksburg, Va., by a 50-46 margin.  MU and UMW have combined to win nine of the last 10 CAC playoff championships.
