Two-Time CAC Women's Basketball Player Of The Year Katelyn Fischer Is Guest Speaker At Better Sports Club of Arlington Banquet
Marymount University All-American women’s basketball player Katelyn Fischer recently headlined a Better Sports Club of Arlington Banquet as a guest speaker. Introduced with glowing praise from head coach Ashlee Courter, Fischer’s speech touched on her love of basketball and her deep passion for giving back to the community.
During her speech, Fischer spoke candidly about her family, devotion to helping the less fortunate and her injury woes that forced her to miss a full season of basketball before joining her Saints teammates on the hardwood. She went on to put together one of the best careers in Marymount history.
“Katelyn's accomplishments at Marymount fit precisely into the model we highlight at our annual awards: academics, community service, leadership and athletic achievement,” said David Navarre, President of the Better Sports Club of Arlington. “Her efforts on the basketball court, in the classroom and in the community make her a role model for the young people of Arlington County and we were honored to have her as our guest speaker."
Fischer was named both an Honorable Mention All-America and Capital Athletic Conference Player of the Year for the second-straight season. She was also named First Team Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-America and was a finalist for the Josten’s Trophy, a national award given to the Division III student-athlete who excels on the court, in the classroom and the community. Fischer became just the sixth player in program history to amass 1,000 points to go with 300 rebounds, 300 assists and 150 steals in a career while leading the Blue and White to their 12th CAC Championship and 17th NCAA Tournament appearance.
Courter, the 2013 CAC Coach of the Year and a former Saints standout in her own right, described Fischer as a driven, determined and competitive young woman.
“[Katelyn] excels in every aspect of her life,” Courter said. “The things she has accomplished and organized are not typical of most 21-year-olds. She is positive role model for her peers and an excellent representative of our program. Katelyn truly embodies what it means to be a successful student, athlete, and community leader. “
