York and Mary Washington Secure Home Victories in CAC Women's Basketball First Round; Semifinal Rematches Set

York and Mary Washington secured home wins in the first round of the CAC women's basketball tournament on Tuesday evening to advance to Thursday's semifinals, setting up a pair of rematches of last year's final four. 

Third-seeded York downed sixth-seeded Frostburg State 66-61 in York, Pa., sending the Spartans to the semifinals for the 13th consecutive season. The Spartans (18-8) will travel to second-seeded Christopher Newport (22-3) for a 6 p.m. tip-off on Thursday in Newport News, Va. York defeated the Captains last Saturday evening in a thrilling regular season finale, 87-85. This will mark CNU's third straight semifinal appearance. Thursday's game will be the front end of a semifinal doubleheader, with the CNU men hosting Mary Washington at 8 p.m. at the Freeman Center. 

In Tuesday's other first-round game, fourth-seeded Mary Washington defeated fifth-seeded Salisbury 50-42 in Fredericksburg, Va. The Eagles (14-12) will be making their fourth straight trip to the semifinals, meeting top-seeded Marymount (22-3) for a 7 p.m. tip-off in Arlington, Va. Marymount has advanced to the CAC semifinals for 18-straight seasons. 

This marks the third-straight year that York, Mary Washington, Christopher Newport and Marymount are the final four teams remaining in the CAC postseason.
