Christopher Newport and Marymount Clinch First-Round Byes in CAC Women's Basketball Tournament; Mary Washington and York Secure First Round Home Games

Nationally-ranked Christopher Newport and Marymount locked up first round byes in the upcoming CAC Women's Basketball Tournament with victories in Saturday's action, while Mary Washington and York clinched first-round home games on the second-to-last weekend of the regular season.

Five of the six CAC Tournament bids have now been solidified, with Salisbury having also clinched a playoff spot with a road win at York on Saturday.

No. 9 CNU and No. 24 Marymount continued to keep pace with each other atop the CAC standings as both squads moved to 15-1 in conference play on Saturday. CNU held off an upset bid by Penn State Harrisburg, outlasting the Lions 78-75 in Middletown, Pa. for their 10th-straight win. Marymount downed Frostburg State 66-55 in Arlington, Va.

Marymount takes to the road this week with away matchups at Penn State Harrisburg on Wednesday and Mary Washington on Saturday. CNU travels to Mary Washington on Wednesday before returning home to host York in Saturday's regular season finale. If both CNU and Marymount post 2-0 records this week, a coin flip will decide homecourt advantage in the CAC Tournament.

Mary Washington defeated Wesley 86-44 to clinch a first-round home game in the CAC Tournament. The Eagles (12-4 CAC) are currently one game ahead of York (11-5) in third place.

Salisbury downed York 64-61 to improve to 8-8 in conference play and secure a playoff spot. The Sea Gulls need just one win or a Frostburg State (6-8) loss to clinch the No. 5 seed.

The race for the sixth and final CAC postseason bid is among three teams, with Frostburg State (6-10) currently in sixth place ahead of Southern Virginia (5-11) and St. Mary's (4-12).
