FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Southern Virginia sophomore forward Katie Garrish was named Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Jan. 14, 2019. This marks the third consecutive week and fourth time this season in which Garrish has been selected to this award.

Southern Virginia sophomore forward Katie Garrish posted her seventh and eighth consecutive double-double this past week extending the Knights winning streak to 12 games. Garrish's play helped the Knights remain unbeaten in CAC play as they went 2-0 for the week. She averaged 18 points per game on 51.9 percent from the field and 88.9 perfect from the foul line. Garrish also averaged 17.5 rebounds per game with four blocks and a pair of steals for the week of Jan. 14.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

York senior Katie McGowan had a spectacular week in leading the Spartans to a 1-1 week. In the Wednesday match up at Harrisburg, McGowan poured in a career-high 25 points while she also pulled in 11 rebounds for the double-double. McGowan was 10-for-17 from the floor including 1-for-2 from three. She also had a pair of assists and four steals in the game against the Lions. In Saturday's win over St. Mary's, McGowan led all scorers with 23 points and 10 rebounds for her second consecutive double-double and her fourth of the year. McGowan was 9-for-20 from the floor and 5-for-9 from the line in the win. She added an assist, three steals and three blocked shots. For the week, McGowan averaged 24 points, 10.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 3.5 steals, and 1.5 blocked shots per game. She shot 51.4% from the floor and 60% from the charity stripe. McGowan is ranked fourth in the CAC in scoring, sixth in rebounding, and 11th in steals per game...Christopher Newport's Jessica Foster picked up her first career starts and led team in scoring (20 ppg) and minutes per game (29.0) in a pair of conference wins this week ... Knocked down nine three-pointers versus St. Mary's (Md.), tying a CAC record and becoming just the second CNU player to hit as many treys in a game ... Shot 59.1% from the field (13-22) and 64.7% (11-17) from long range ... Also dished out 10 assists (5.0/game) and grabbed seven steals (3.5/game)...Penn State Harrisburg's Shanique Mattis was integral in helping lead Penn State Harrisburg to its first conference victory of the season. The senior scored 18 points, grabbed eight rebounds, swiped four steals and dished out three assists in the team's 70-60 win over Yoirk (Pa.) on Wednesday night. The guard followed it up with 14 points, three steals and three assists in a loss to Mary Washington three days later. For the week, Mattis averaged 16 points, 3.5 steals, four rebounds and three assists per outing....Frostburg State junior Victoria Diggs scored 34 points in a pair of losses last week for the Bobcats...Salisbury's Kylie Webb started both games for the Sea Gulls and averaged 11.5 points, including 90.9 percent from the stripe and 42.9 percent from the field. She went 3-for-7 from beyond, pulled in eight rebounds and added two assists...Tory Martin led Mary Washington by averaging 16 PPG in a split of games this week for the Eagles. She scored 19 points as the Eagles fell to Salisbury, and then made 6-9 shots to score 13 and add six rebounds in a win at Harrisburg...
