FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Southern Virginia senior guard Alexus Barnes was named Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Jan. 21, 2019.

Southern Virginia senior guard Alexus Barnes was vital in the Knights continued dominance this past week improving the team to 6-0 in conference play and continue their 14-game winning streak. Barnes scored a then season-high against No. 16 Christopher Newport with 19 points and followed up her season's best with a career-high 26 points in their victory over St. Mary's (Md.). Barnes averaged 22.5 points while shooting 61.5 percent from the floor including 6.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE
Frostburg State junior guard Victoria Diggs led the Bobcats with 46 total points in her team's two victories this past week, including scoring a season-high 29 points in a comeback victory on the road against Salisbury. In that same game, Diggs shot 15-of-17 from the free-throw line and 9-of-10 from the charity stripe against Penn State Harrisburg. She also collected 11 rebounds and six steals in Frostburg's two games...Salisbury's Megan Konig was the leading scorer in both games for the Sea Gulls over the past week. She followed up a 16-point performance in a win over York (Pa.) on Wednesday evening with 19 more points against Frostburg State on Saturday afternoon. Konig also collected nine total rebounds, four assists, and two steals across both contests...York's Katie McGowan had another huge week as the Spartans went 1-1 on the road. In Wednesday's loss at Salisbury, McGowan registered a career-high tying 25 points while she also pulled in five rebounds and had two blocked shots. She followed that with 23 points in a come-from-behind effort in the win at Mary Washington. McGowan added eight rebounds, an assist, a blocked shot and six steals. She was 9-for-20 from the floor in the win. For the week, McGowan averaged 24 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 1.5 blocked shots in 35 minutes per game. She shot 43.2% from the floor and 65.2% from the charity stripe...Mary Washington's Emily Thompson averaged 17.5 PPG as the Eagles split their two contests this week, scoring 24 in defeat to York on Saturday.
